What will you hack on?

Drive and help students learn the basics of software development from code, documentations, tests, CI/CD, and more. Our open source mentorship ships tech to make the planet greener

Stack is based in Javascript, PostgresSQL, Node. Working with APIs like Twilio, Cicero, OAuth across infrastructure of Heroku, GitHub Actions, and LaunchDarkly. Upskill in a space where you can experiment

Meet virtually on Zoom and hack within an Open Source repo. You'll be assisted with existing maintainers in breakouts with 1-2 fellows.

Who will you be hacking with?

Early career devs who come from bootcamps, HBCUs, and community colleges 

While many fellows aren't new to coding, they are new to collaboration and how production level code is reviewed, QAed, and deployed. Hands on experience is the differentiator that helps them land their first role as well as ramp and retain it.   

Fellows will have an issue scoped for them and they'll drive in the pairing session with Copilot prompts. You'll help guide them with what questions to ask and how to test their answers. 

 

Here are a few ways you can be a great mentor:
  • Break it down - Where would be the first place you look for context or clues? 
  • Think out loud - how are you making decisions or asking questions? 
  • Lead with empathy - what were the great pieces of advice you received on your journey?
